The first thing that comes to mind when is thought Kırıkkale is the defense industry and the institution is undoubtedly the Mechanical Chemical Industry Corporation (MKEK).

The integration of Kırıkkale with the national defense industry extends to the first years of the Republic. The foundations of the Cannon and Ammunition Factory in 1925 are the core of Kırıkkale's urbanization. In 1928, the Brass Factory, the Steel Plant in 1932, the Weapon Factory in 1935, and later in Kirikkale, followed by the implementation of other important warfare equipment and related units.

MKE, which forms the basis of the Turkish defense industry, has transformed Kırıkkale, which has a large part of its factories and facilities, by rapidly expanding with an integrated defense industry.

Kirikkale has grown rapidly especially since the 1970s. Kırıkkale was a village of 12 households in 1925 and became a province in 1989 at the end of rapid growth. As of 2017, a settlement area has extended to 278 thousand persons.

Important Defence Industry Fırms in Kırıkkale

5 of the 8 important factories of MKEK, which is the flagship of the national defense industry, is in Kırıkkale.

MKEK Ammunition Factory

Founded in 1925 on an area of 1 million 228 thousand square meters, the factory produces cannon, howitzer, grenade launchers, mortar munitions, rocket heads, airplanes and ball bombs, destroyed molds and hand grenades.

MKEK Brass Factory

The factory which established in 1928 on an area of 460 thousand square meters and covered with 28 thousand square meters of closed area is the first facility in the non-ferrous metals production sector. In the factory, copper, bronze, various brass materials and ferrules and heavy arms ammunition for dispatch circles and sleeve washers are produced.

MKEK Heavy Weapon and Steel Factory

The history of Turkey's first and only heavy weapons and forged steel manufacturing plant was established in 1937 and steel factory was established in 1932. The factory, which is located on an area of 835 thousand square meters, produces arms systems, cannons, mortars and forged steel materials of various sizes with L-60 and Altai tanks.

MKEK Armory

The main task of the Arms Factory, established in 1935, is to meet all the needs of the Turkish Armed Forces and other armed units on light weapons.

New Steelworks

Steelworks which established within the framework of the renovation works at the Heavy Weapons and Steel factory within the body of MKEK will product special steel which is the basic raw material of the defense industry, aviation and machinery manufacturing sectors and will reduce the dependence of our country on this issue abroad.

MKEK Powder Mill

Established in 1939 on a total area of 2 million 371 thousand square meters, the factory manufactures ball gunpowder, spherical powder and nitrocellulose in an area of 27 thousand square meters.

National Pride: MPT-76

The design, development and production of the first national infantry rifle MPT-76 by MKEK was delivered to the Land Forces Command on 11 January 2017 and was held with the participation of the National Defense Minister Fikri Işık at the Kırıkkale Arms Factory.

Weapons Test Center

When the weapons test center will enter into service within the body of Kırıkkale University, it will be possible to carry out the tests, analysis and certification processes that can only be done abroad.

Kırıkkale Weapon Specialization OSB

Weapon Specialized Organized Industrial Zone which was established partnersip by Kırıkkale Provincial Special Administration, Kırıkkale Municipality, Kırıkkale of Commerce and Industry Chamber, MKEK and the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries is to be first in Turkey.

Within the scope of the investment incentive system, the investments made in Kırıkkale are supported by 80 percent.
